2024: Garden of Time
[DISCLAIMER: I'm running out of steam for doing these write-ups, but do still have Opinions to express, so I'm doing it sloppy first-edit style, and will come back at some later date and make things coherent.]
A theme this vague could've gone quite wrong—I think everyone was apprehensive of a wave of florals, going in—but the results [rest of sentence]. Unconvential materials reigned. Underdog successes: I still don't know who Tyla or Mona Patel are, but I will remember that sand dress and the automaton butterflies for a long time.

Harris Reed in Harris Reed
Generally, when designers attend the Met Gala they go for relatively low-key looks, so as to not upstage the celebrities they're dressing. Not so Harris Reed! (Smart move, as Demi Moore's ensemble would not have made this list.)

Anok Yai in Swarovski
Hachi machi! You can come anok my yai any time!

Eva Chen in Robert Wu
Eva Chen, Head of Fashion Partnerships at Instagram, falls into the "Hamish Bowles" category of someone who attends the Met every year and always puts forth A Look, despite not being particularly famous otherwise. [transition] "Dress that looks like it got snowed on" is a great concept, and they did not fuck up the execution, yay!

Elizabeth Debicki in Dior
Is this a good look, or does the train of the dress just look beautiful cascading down the stairs in this pic? Am I getting "Ophelia" vibes because of the clothes, or is that just Elizabeth Debicki's face?

Colman Domingo in Willy Chavarria
Genuinely love to find out that a look is a touching tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman and André Leon Talley, AFTER I already decided to include it. I just like arum lilies!

Jonathan Bailey, Mike Faist, and Dan Levy in Loewe
Botanical details in menswear lightning round.
