2023: Karl Lagerfeld A Line of Beauty
This theme straight sucked. Karl Lagerfeld always dressed like if Michael Jackson was racist, in addition to being a pedo. The famous "Chanel tweed" is boring as fuck, and the famous "Chanel suit" barely looked good on Jackie Kennedy, let alone anyone else. The 90's tacky costume jewelry was fun, but has been rehashed endlessly. Anyway: looks!

Sora Choi in Thom Browne
If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a tweed look, I'd go for this one.

Grace Elizabeth in Christopher John Rogers
You guys, there were *so many* black & white looks this year. Any other time, this gown would've come across a tad pedestrian—in 2023 it was a breath of fresh air.

Elle Fanning in Vivienne Westwood
This ensemble has rather a sweet story behind it, referencing a photo that Lagerfeld took of Elle when she was 13. Even without that background info, it's still a beautiful look with quirky appeal... if not a slight ominous edge?

Chloe Fineman in Wiederhoeft
I do not wish to be a bitch, but: it's kind of weird that SNL's Cloe Fineman got invited to the Met Gala, right? Multiple times, too? And yet I find myself charmed by this on-paper-underwhelming look. It's a 90's Barbie dress, but with all the camp sucked out and replaced by sincerity. And is that pink cat purse supposed to be a Choupette reference? Who knows!

Daisy Edgar-Jones in Gucci
Love a trompe l'oeil bow! Would love if there was something more going on with this look!

Labrinth in Valentino
And now for something completely different: a Trigun reference. Allegedly. I hope. If not, it's still for-sure a reference to his punk dad, which is cool also.
