2007: Poiret King of Fashion

Top of my list for exhibits to visit in a time machine. I'm somewhat sad this hit in the time before guests went all-out at the Met, but also a lot of Poiret's designs were... rather orientalist, so that could've been very awkward! It is too bad that only one attendee wore John Galliano for Dior—a perfect fit for this theme!

Cate Blanchett in Balenciaga

Fun fact: Melania Trump *also* wore gold fringe to this Gala. Cate completely trumped her, if you'll pardon the pun.

later

Jessica Stam in Dior

The front of this gown is a bit dull compared to the back, but so often the inverse is true and I don't complain, so I'll allow it.

later

Shalom Harlow in Viktor & Rolf

This is as close to a "harem pant" as I'll tolerate. The shape of that bra is veeerrry 2008—come to think of it, I remember seeing a lot of fringe in lingerie around this time as well...

Claire Danes in Prada

Ominous :)

Sarah Brown

Even though her friend's frock is closer to the 1910's in form, Sarah's gold sequins and half-visible nipples are more in the spirit of Poiret, I think.
